August 27 Summer wrap upHowdy Folks! It feels good to have the Officer Candidates School "Summer Rush" behind me. While I celebrate my new found "time" Bethany plows through some big time lines. The truth is I don't really have any more time in the day...still only 24 hour each day. I've filled it up with a full plate of Fall Term kick off of school. I did the math...I have 35 pages of research papers due in the next 2 weeks....good thing I'm taking some time "off"......It's truly amazing. Enduring a full time Masters Degree Program while enduring a full time work schedule has taught me the importance of eliminating what's not important. No idle chit chat.....no unnecessary couch potato time....no veggin' out.... It's funny....I always fill my schedule with activities. Things...accomplishments....tasks...goals...things that lead to accomplishments.....call it what you will...but I think the reality is that I don't know how to relax. If I get time off I try to fill it up. Going to Georgetown University has been a lifelong goal. Now I'm only 1 semester from graduating, I'm pretty stoked. This is one time that I feel that filling up my time was the right thing to do. It is exhausting...but I am loving every bit of the interaction and learning. I finally had a chance to "show off Bethany" to some of my class mates. She met me in Georgetown at the "Daily Grill" and I had a chance to let her meet a half dozen of my "colleagues"...(I think that word is so funny...but that's what people in grad school call each other). Then we did some window shopping and I had a chance to take her to an Austrian restaurant called "Leopold’s"
This week Bethany and I are heading back to Oregon. My brother Brian get's married on Labor Day. He's got a full weekend of activities planned. It's going to be a great time. Well gotta get back to homework so I ca be ready to enjoy the Luccio family this weekend. My guess is that our next post will have lots of stories and pics from Portland.
Cheers!
Lucky August 06 Week in Review - August 6, 2006Wow - has it been hot around here or WHAT?!?!? I certainly am glad that we have central air. It doesn't do Doug any good though when he has to go check up on the candidates in the major heat. In any event, this week was not very interesting other than the heat. Lilliputian had to see the doctor as a follow up visit from her first time. Unfortunately, she had ear mites and at the follow up, it turns out that they have not gone away. At the same time, she has worms so now she is on medicine for that. As soon as the worms are cleared up, she will have to have surgery on her ears. Poor baby. She is a trooper though. We had to give her a bath and if you haven't ever seen a kitten getting a bath - it's not good. She took it though with only a few meows. She is also on restriction so she can't go outside for two weeks. On the good news side though - she gained .06 lbs, she is growing and still adorable as can be. All our neighbors get a huge kick out of seeing us walk her around the neighborhood. I saw the cutest little stroller at PetSmart the other day for when she gets tired but Doug said NO!.
Doug had school this week but last night when I got home he had an 'aprise for me. It was a necklace and matching earrings from one of my favorite jewerly stores. I believe the stones are moonstone, topaz and citrine. It's really beautiful. I have a GREAT husband. Today, we went out for breakfast and than ran errands. After that, we came home and cleaned up.
Doug only has two more weeks before the last summer OCS class graduates. Yeah! Then we are off to Portland for Brian and Laura's wedding. We can't wait.
That's about it - like I said, not a very exciting week. Just trying to keep cool. |
